This beautiful and rare necklace has been on a journey for over 50 years to get to you. In the deserts of Eastern Oregon in the late 60s, my father dug through the dirt to discover the magnificent Eastern Oregon plume agate you see here. Now quite rare, this clear agate has dramatic black plumes that capture your eye. In our family garage was a large agate saw, where Dad would stand for hours with dripping dirty water that kept the saw blade cool. He would slowly cut thick slabs from nondescript rocks revealing the agate's hidden beauty. Examining each slab, he would select a beautiful plume to transform into a large round cabochon. With his limited equipment and a serious hand tremor, Dad carefully cut, ground and polished the agate to perfection. The shiny cabochon was mounted in a sterling silver bezel with a twisted rope motif. After my father's passing a few years ago, Mom (Betty) started transforming Dad's stone art into extraordinary jewelry. Raven's Plume is her most recent design based upon his work. Because the pendant is so dramatic, she chose to make the necklace strand elegant yet simple. The vintage sterling silver chain has been adorned with hand wrapped black Swarovski crystals and finished with a simple antiqued sterling silver clasp. Raven's Plume measures 19-inches plus 1-1/4 inches for the oval pendant.
