Description:
Oregon natives joke that moss should be the state flower because it's always raining here! This handmade Oregon Moss necklace isn't about the stuff that covers rocks but the rock that appears to have captured the moss. Oregon moss agate is a clear to cloudy white agate with minerals dispursed throughout that appear to be moss. Found in the eastern part of the state, this superior quality Oregon moss agate was dug, cut and polished by my late husband, Norman. Moss agate (especially of this quality) has become very rare since he made this over 30 years ago. The beautiful handcut cabochon is set in an antiqued gold-filled setting creating a 2-inch pendant. I recently acquired two bold moss agate bead strands and immediately remembered Norm's pendant. Wanting to maintain the bold feeling, I decided to create an assymetrical design with a smaller double strand on one side for this 17-inch design. Along with the more modern assymetrical layout, I used a modern square hammered and brushed gold plated toggle clasp. The gold clasp and small gold plated beads certain make the green shades stand out. I think my one-of-a-kind Oregon Moss necklace honors the beauty of this unique stone and Norm's craftsmanship. I'd love to see this necklace go to a woman who appreciates the rarity and beauty of Oregon moss agate. This is an heirloom necklace that deserves to be well loved.
