Irish Lass is a masterpiece that took the talent of two beloved members of my family to bring it to life. My late father, Norman, cut, polished and set the unique quartz stone with green and black streaks over 25 years ago. Then in early 2009 Jennie, my Granny who passed away last June, transformed it into a lovely 16-inch choker. The finished necklace was tucked away safely and was just recently rediscovered. The magnificient pendant of Irish Lass is tourmalated quartz. This means that the same mineral that tourmaline is created from found its way into the clear to slightly cloudy quartz crystal. It takes years for these crystals to be formed in the earth. The result is a fairly rare stone with dark green to black streaks throughout. Norman then choose to set the stone in an antiqued sterling silver bezel with a twisted design. The finished pendant was found in a small draw in his craft room. Jennie wanted to amplify the pendant's green and provide some contrast so she strung together lovely white oval Mother-of-Pearl beads with sparkling deep green faceted Czech glass rondelle beads. The result is quite impressive! Irish Lass is secured with a sterling silver toggle clasp that coordinates with the pendant's bezel. One of the wonderful things about creating handmade jewelry is that we can share family stories, creative spirits and memories with our wonderful customers. Extraordinary women deserve extraordinary jewelry and Irish Lass is just such a piece.
