Here are 5 tips on selecting the right wedding necklace -

1. Consider the basic color of your dress. Not all whites and creams are the same. Some are blue toned others have yellow under tones. Select pearls in with similar under tone colors.
2. Consider your skin tone. Pearls can actually disappear when worn against some skin tones. A contrast (dark skin, bright white pearls) will make your necklace pop. If that’s the desired result then go for the best contrast you can find.
3. Consider your neckline. Since so many dresses are strapless, you’ve got a big canvas to work with. You can either select a demure choker length or a large bib style that fills your chest.
4. Crystals add sparkle and reflect the light enhancing your skin tone. Too many crystals can actually disrupt facial close ups so be careful.
5. Select a pop of color from your color theme. Swarovski crystals, faux pearls, CZs and gemstones come in a wide range of colors for a touch of color in handmade jewelry. You can add as much as as little when ordering custom handmade jewelry. The results will be just the way you want them!

Day 2 of the 15 Days of Christmas Jewelry

Tomorrow is hubby Arden and my wedding anniversary – we’ve been together for over 35 years! I’ll be featuring great handmade jewelry for anniversary gifts. Be sure to forward the post to your hubby or significant other as a big HINT!

 

Mom (Betty) and I have been working on developing a broad selection of wedding jewelry featuring colorful faux pearls, rich velvets, Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls. We’ll be adding new pieces as we get them photographed throughout December.

Mom is arriving this afternoon for Thanksgiving.  We’ve got plenty of beading projects planned. Mom even had to get another rolling suitcase to bring all the beads!

  Our goal is to 1) not become consumed with taking product photos; 2) make some wedding jewelry for a potential April wedding fair and 3) master some new jewelry making techniques.

Mom is great a learning new things as she never gives up until she masters it. Me – I have limits and tend to tuck things away and try again later. That’s why I have a dedicated work-in-progress bin which is always full.

Wedding jewelry isn’t just white pearls any longer. Splashes of colorful crystals along with all the shades of ivory, creams and peaches. I promise show off some of our newest creations in upcoming posts.

This soft pale faux pearl necklace set is so Precious Pink. Created by Betty for the pink loving bride, this handmade necklace, bracelet and earring set feature heirloom quality glass pearls in the softest pink.

The 16-inch necklace features larger pearls in the front mixed with tiny pearls for interest. The choker continues up with smaller pearls and is finished with a romantic sterling silver toggle clasp.

The matching bracelet features the two smallest sized pearls from the necklace and is finished with a matching silver toggle clasp. The bracelet fits wrists up to 7-1/4 inches.

Pearls are a traditional  June birthstone. Rose of Sharon Jewelry artists love to work with natural freshwater and faux pearls.

Pearls aren’t just for formal occasions. South Pacific is a colorful bold blend of funky freshwater pearls in deep sea colors. This double-strand necklace is a real favorite of mine and really reflects my love of BOLD! The matching bracelet can be worn together or separately. The stick pearls are so much fun in the bracelet.

Besides pearls, I used Mother-of-Pearl which is harvested from the inside of the shell which creates a natural pearl.

 

 

 

 

Faux pearls are made of glass. The ladies of Rose of Sharon Jewelry use crystal-centered Swarovski faux pearls, vintage faux pearls and Czech glass faux pearls known for their great colors.

 

Softly Spring uses Czech glass faux pearls in a lovely soft plum color to accent the floral enameled pendant. Created by Betty, this set includes lovely glass pearl earrings to match.

 

 

Classic doesn’t mean boring – this lovely single strand of Swarovski pearls and Swarovski lead crystals is a real stunner. The  luscious cream color of the pearls is highlighted with the light peach of the crystals. Ella is  perfect gift choice that will become a family heirloom. 

 

 

With  beautiful rich blue crystals in this ornate Christian cross, the simple white faux pearls are a perfect contract. Heavenly Blue is part of Betty’s series of religious jewelry found only in the Rose of Sharon Jewelry store.

 

 

 

Sandra Lee has mixed beautiful pearls with colorful jade beads in Shall We Dance. This is an elegant design with Sandra Lee’s  signature touch.

The deep rich fuchsia pearls are interwoven with the pale pink Jade rounds.

The centerpiece is a fine silver (.999) flower handcrafted from artisans in Thailand.

New Life Jewelry Art (the ROSJ Artfire store) features vintage beads and components from Betty and Jennie’s personal stashes. Some beads are over 60 years old as Jennie (my late Granny) saved them for a rainy day.

Mom (Betty) and I have carefully sorted through these beautiful beads with a history. We discovered some fabulous and rare faux pearls which were known as “sugar’ pearls. These glass pearls have a sugary-looking finish which really catches the light.

On this “Sharon” Saturday, I thought it would be nice to feature some of our New Life Jewelry Art and Rose of Sharon Jewelry designs incorporating vintage beads.

Blue Satin features vintage Lucite beads from Betty’s stash. These are the real deal and have wonderful luster.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Empress is a wonderful 2-piece necklace and earring set made from vintage graduated faux pearls. These glass pearls have outstanding luster and are in perfect condition. The white is a perfect shade (not too yellow and not too blue) to go with a wedding gown.

These beads were from Granny’s collection and we believe these are over 50 years old (sounds great for beads but not for me at 55).

 

This is a classic heirloom design worthy of passing on to a beloved daughter, granddaughter or niece.

 

 

 

 

 

This next bracelet reminds me of those hard candies we used to get at the movies so I named it Hard Candy. The vintage beads in this design are the turquoise with black accented ones. To complete this double-stranded bracelet, Mom added some licorice black Czech glass beads. This adorable one-of-a-kind bracelet is on sale at ArtFire now.
