 Burgundy Deep features several  magnificent handcrafted authentic Bali beads. The center piece triangle of fine silver is from the back of my stash. Purchased directly from a Bali village known for its silver craftsmanship, these beads are ornately detailed and quite heavy. The accompanying beads are rich burgundy and black handcrafted lampwork glass.

A bold mixture of textures and colors this dramatic necklace I call South Pacific is a great way to remember a vacation or dream of one!

Winter in White – Handmade Pearl Jewelry

When you think of white jewelry, pearls are the first to come to mind. While pearls come in a variety of colors, white pearls are the classic standard. Freshwater and cultured pearls are farmed in Asia and their more organic shapes and colors (not the perfect round versions from Breakfast of Tiffany) are budget-friendly alternatives to the A+ pearls.

Another option is faux or glass pearls.  Jackie Kennedy Onassis was known for her pearls which were actually “fake”. Michelle Obama regularly wears large bold and colorful faux pearls.

Here are 5 great handmade necklaces in white from the women of Rose of Sharon Jewelry. Any one of these would be perfect for daily wear or special occasions.

Always and Forever is a lovely double strand of vintage glass pearls with coordinating earrings. These pearls (from my late Granny’s stash) are over 50 years old but have the same high quality luster as when they were first created.

Mom added some vintage gold beads for extra sparkle.

48-inches of fabulous vintage glass pearls! This necklace was created by my late Granny (Jenny of Rose of Sharon Jewelry). She was so excited to see it posted in the ArtFire store.

I’d love to see this go to someone who treasures the elegance of this versatile necklace.

There are lots of “whites” – ranging from those with a blue under cast to those with a yellow base. These have a very slight yellow cast which means they are called “off-white”.

The Empress necklace is a graduated strand of heirloom quality glass pearls with a matching pair of earrings.

This is called an “organic” necklace because the natural freshwater pearls have wonderful “love rings”. Love rings are tiny natural rings that encircle the pearl . The finishing touch to this long multi-strand beauty is a wonderful crystal slice with another crystal dangling within. A great choice for the gal who loves her jewelry “a la natural.”

We laid this necklace flat to get all the curves into one picture but it isn’t the most flattering pose. When you wear this necklace it really accents your neckline and is much prettier than the picture. This one is scheduled to be reshot soon – if some lucky lady doesn’t get it first!

Betty’s Abiding Love necklace features a sterling silver cross on lovely white pearls.

The beauty of the sea often inspires the artists of Rose of Sharon Jewelry. Today I’d like to share a few original handmade necklaces with ocean themes.

The oceans of the world are filled with interesting creatures. When I found this wonderful artisan-made octopus lampwork bead, I just had to transform it into a wearable piece of art and share its whimsical appeal.

Octopus’ Garden necklace combines the glass focal, jasper beads, sea shells and a magnificent sterling silver star fish clasp.

Betty’s Pearl Drift necklace combines freshwater

pearls with seed beads that invoke the colors of the sandy beaches of Oregon. This necklace and earring set is part of our A.F.F. Jewelry Collection at Etsy.

The beautiful South Pacific deserved a dramatic necklace like this one with lots of different sizes, shapes and colors of pearls. I love bold jewelry and this necklace with matching bracelet is not for the timid woman.

On second thought, want to break out of your shell – try wearing this beautiful handmade necklace to a party! You’ll be surrounded by admirers all evening.

My Under the Sea necklace is one of my favorite color combinations – turquoise and coral. The natural tumbled turquoise beads aren’t from the ocean but they certain invoke the Pacific Ocean’s color off Baja. The coral beads are from the ocean (my supplier assures me these are not from endangered reefs) and look like they have been tumbled among the waves for years. The sterling silver fish is from Thailand (made by hand by villagers) as are the adorable sterling silver sea shell beads. This is another bold design that invokes the power and beauty of the oceans around the globe.
