I never get tired of admiring the wonderful creations of fellow handmade jewelry artists. Today’s find is actually an entire Etsy store – Jewels by Nature.  Cheryl creates wonderful steampunk designs that feature watch components, cameos, hardware pieces and a lot of talent. Steampunk is a style that began in the 1980s as a sci-fi sub-genre. I would describe it as an reinterpretation of technology using Victorian imagery and influences. Think ornate filigree mixed with utilitarian components or a desktop computer made from Victorian gaslights. In jewelry, the style mixes metals, romantic and feminine images with more masculine components. Even though I am a handmade jewelry designer, I'm always shopping around for the beautiful work of other designers. This caught my eye on Flickr this morning. Flickr is a great one-stop site to explore all types of handmade jewelry. Every type of technique is proudly displayed from talented artisans from around the globe. See what I mean with this beauty?

The handmade beaded Violet Rose necklace set carries on the fashion color trend of purple. The entire purple color-spectrum is a great choice for current clothing designs.  Think of plum, violet, lavender, lilac, aubergine, eggplant and just plain deep purple to add a real color pop to an ordinary outfit.

I love purple – even for my blog – and frequently incorporate natural amethyst in my designs.

Violet Rose is Betty’s newest necklace and earring design.  She’s used unique dusty* plum colored Italian beads, Swarovski crystals and handmade lampwork beads from a California artist. The tiny pink roses in the clear lampwork beads are quite lovely.

As many readers know, we recently launched a value-priced line of handmade jewelry that we call A.F.F. This Affordable-Fun-Fab line lives in our Etsy store. After our marathon photo shoot, I've been stocking the store with a great range of affordable necklaces, fun bracelets and fab earrings.

The line features great original designs and our same excellent workmanship - but we've used less expensive materials and less complex designs. We want to make certain all our customers get some new Rose of Sharon Jewelry for the Spring season.

I'm a rabid NPR (National Public Radio) fan. Honest news (facts), great interviews and enlightenment all at once. On today's trip to the bank, an author was discussing the writing life. During the short trip, I realized that instead of complaining about all the photography, web work, blogging, social networking - basically anything that "robs" me of jewelry making time - is actually an important part of the creative process. All are creative and instead of fighting I need to open up to the possibilities.

That doesn't mean I don't need to prioritize my jewelry designing - it just means that without the "butt in the chair" time, I won't be rewarded with the results I want - for all of you to be able to own a handmade piece of jewelry that I made!

So starting today - less mumbling, more time looking for the possibility to paint the "boring" stuff with the creativity brush. A nice swatch of rich red  all over it would be nice.
